LOUISIANA

Heather
Rabalais - My sister lives in Boyce, Louisiana. She's been diagnosed with Lyme disease and has been suffering for a few years now. She is recently divorced and her now ex-husband canceled her from his health insurance. Consequently, she is no longer able to receive or afford the medical treatment she so desperately needs. She is physically unable to work. She is trying to get through the red tape in Louisiana in order to obtain medicaid. As we all know, it takes a long time to obtain it. In the meantime, she is suffering. Furthermore, once she does get medicaid, doctors in her area will not accept it.

Edwina Schwegmann - In Louisiana we have forests, deer, hunters. I know of others here that have been diagnosed with Lyme some choosing elsewhere for treatment. I don't know which doctors but some are looking to see if their patients have Lyme or M.S., and that's here; others don't seem to know about it. I went to a seminar by two women doctors-family practice who treat a lot of CFIDS patients and Fibro patients. They said if you have elevated fevers and sedimentation rates you need to look at other things besides fibro/CFIDS. I went back told my Infectious Disease Dr. this and he, who does a lot of testing-did another Lyme test on me as well as others. He was shocked and horrified it was positive he said IVs for 2 weeks. I'd had orals a lot from him over the 15 years I've been sick because he secretly wondered if I had Lyme. I did improve some too under his care after lots of antibiotics. I can drive some only awhile though, walk some in stores never, never a mall too big, still get fatigued. I'm not bed bound and can walk but painfully lots of burning in feet, elbow, spine at times and stiffness. My symptoms: sudden onset severe joint/muscle pains, dizziness, swelling at base of neck, still swells sometimes, weight gain, difficulty walking on bad days stay in sometimes hard to walk down hall, night sweats severe enough to change gowns, mental confusion, vision off, hearing-buzzing in ears/ringing so loud, complete exhaustion, severe pain, weakness profound one towel at time I could put in washer, it took me 2 months to be able to turn over in bed so stiff, bladder infections I'd never had before severe blood coming out of me, swelling of lymph nodes in right neck between shoulder, black spots that appear in cheeks when I "crash", someone said possible morgellons www.morgellons.com

In the interest of making the stories palatable for everyone, please spell-check your submissions, and substitute a word like "antibiotic(s)" or abx for drug names. This site is foremost about telling the story of our disease and problems with diagnosis, treatment, etc. Please refrain from listing every drug and/or dosage you have been on. We have all been through a unique experience and that is the focus of this page. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
